JoyceDeWitt began her stage career at the age of 13. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Ball State University. The director advised her to apply for UCLA's Department of Theater MFA program. There she received the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship along with the Clifton Webb Scholarship. Dewitt declared that she never encountered Abe Vigoda during her time at UCLA. DeWitt is most famous for her part in Three's Co's run between 1977 and 1984 as Janet Wood. This was an opportunity she was offered after being selected for the second pilot. Janet was also in an episode of The Ropers that she appeared in in 1979. After Three's Company ended in 1984, DeWitt appeared in an episode of Finder of Lost Loves in 1984 following which she resigned from acting for several years. Acting was her first foray back on stage in the month of June in 1991 when she played a part in the Noises Off production in Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. Then she was a part of the TV comedy Spring Fling! Pinky and the Brain featured a character that was based on her voiced by another actress in 1997. She was featured in an episode of Cybill and also made an appearance in Living Single's final episode. The 2000s work of her includes TV shows such as Hope Island, The Nick at Nite Holiday Special and Call of the Wild.
